U9 House

The U9 program is the perfect next step after Learn to Play! It builds on the fundamentals your child already knows and introduces real games in a fun, supportive, and still low-pressure environment while continuing to follow Softball Canada’s Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) model.

This is our internal house league division – players are placed on balanced teams and play against other teams right here in Sooke, so no long-distance travel is required!

Key Details at a Glance

Ages: 8–9 years old (born in 2016 or 2017)
Mixed gender – boys and girls play together!
Season: April through June
Schedule: One practice AND one game per week
Game format: Coach-pitch with tees available as needed so every player gets plenty of swings and action
Focus: Strengthening core skills – throwing, catching, hitting, base running – plus learning basic game rules and teamwork
Coaches: Friendly volunteer coaches

What to Bring

Baseball/softball glove
Batting helmet (with cage)
Cleats (or running shoes)

What We Provide

Team shirt (yours to keep!)
Hat for all first-time players (also yours to keep)

Whether your child is moving up from Learn to Play or jumping in for the first time, U9 is all about keeping the joy in the game while taking that exciting next step toward competitive play. Everyone plays, everyone improves, and everyone has a blast!
